$4.8m boost for Sandringham Hospital

Sandringham Hospital's outpatient building is to undergo $4.8 million revamp. Member for Southern Metropolitan, Nina Taylor MP met with staff during a visit to announce the funding.

Sandringham Hospital’s outpatient facilities will be given a boost with a major upgrade set to deliver a more welcoming environment for patients, and new consultation and treatment spaces.

Plans for the $4.8 million refurbishment are now underway thanks to a grant from the Metropolitan Health Infrastructure Fund (MHIF).

Acting Alfred Health chief executive, Simone Alexander said the funding will raise the spirits of hard-working staff who continue to respond to the challenges of the pandemic, while maintaining support for the community.

“The planned increase in elective surgery at Sandringham Hospital, and the ongoing demand on services, means this much-needed upgrade to our outpatient building could not come at a better time,” Ms Alexander said.

Director of nursing and site operations for Sandringham Hospital, Sharon Hade said the funding will see many improvements over the current offering.

“In addition to new waiting areas, improved disability access, and new and more modern spaces for care, the upgrade will also see some facilities tailored more to providing care for children,” Ms Hade said. “There will also be better educational facilities for staff, which is so important in the current environment.”

Supporting the announcement, Member for Southern Metropolitan Region Nina Taylor visited Sandringham Hospital, meeting with staff.

“Our dedicated doctors, nurses, other hospital staff and patients are all set to benefit, and this funding will mean local families continue to get the world class treatment and care they deserve in fit for purpose spaces,” Ms Taylor said.
