Child & Youth Mental Health Service
The Alfred Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) offers a co-ordinated mental health service for young people and their families.
Clinical service overview
We provide a range of mental health services to young people children and their families. Consultation and education is also available for staff in a range of services.
Typical referral concerns:
- Not wanting to go to school
- Trouble controlling temper or tantrums
- Potential or actual harm to self or others
- Feeling sad, depressed, angry, stressed, anxious
- Feeling shy or withdrawn
- Not getting along with family, friends or others
- Bullying or being bullied
- Difficulties with co-ordination, social skills, learning and attention and concentration
- Difficulties with play, speech and language
- Eating and sleeping problems
- Feeling or acting suicidal
- Unusual experiences such as hearing voices, seeing strange things, having beliefs that seem out of touch with reality
- Mental health and alcohol or drug problems
- Experience of trauma or abuse

Special referral instructions
Families and young people living in the municipalities of Port Phillip, Stonnington and Glen Eira. Services are available for people aged 0-25
For families and young people living in the municipalities of Bayside and Kingston services are available for people aged 0-18
