Help us build the future of HIV care

We have provided expert care for people living with HIV in Victoria for the past 25 years. In February 2021 we asked the community about their needs and priorities for HIV care and the response is already shaping the next generation of care.

Why now?

Much has changed in the world of HIV care and to help us deliver care in the future we wanted to understand the needs and priorities of people living with HIV.

HIV specialist groups including Living Positive Victoria, Thorne Harbour Health and Positive Women Victoria along with the Department of Health were part of this community conversation that included surveys, engagement through social media and ‘kitchen table’ discussions.

Your feedback

The HIV community identified ageing, long-term impacts of treatment, access to medication, mental health and stigma as their main health priorities for future care.

The survey also asked what was most important for people if they needed hospital care.

Top responses included; respect and privacy, confidentiality, private rooms and the capability of health professionals. While demand has dropped for inpatient care, there was still a clear need for hospital care.

Get involved in co-design

Alfred Health is planning to create a new purpose-built facility with three to five beds for inpatient HIV care at The Alfred. Once again, the community can have a say in developing this facility through a co-design process.
