We are always recruiting Consumer Advisors, but sometimes we have particular needs related to improvement activities happening at the time.

Community Advisory Committee

What is this role?

The Board of Alfred Health is seeking applications from health care consumers and members of the community to join the Alfred Health Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

Why is this role important?

The Committee's role includes advising the Alfred Health Board and Chief Executive on priority areas and concerns to enhance patient experience and promote consumer and community participation.

Who can apply?

Applications are sought from consumers with a lived experience (patient/family/carer) of Alfred Health services. People from diverse backgrounds who live in Melbourne or regional Victoria are encouraged to apply.

Experience in consumer representation and strong community links and networks is desirable.

What will I be doing?

The CAC meets every second month for 90 minutes. The membership is made up from consumer representatives and two Alfred Health Board members. There is a requirement to attend 75% of meetings and the term of office is 3 years.

Will I be given some training?

You will be formally orientated as a Consumer Advisor to Alfred Health and the CAC. This will include a role statement and introduction to other members. You will be given a key contact on the committee who will provide ongoing support. Regular training opportunities are provided for Consumer Advisors.

Cancer Services Advisory Group

What is this role? 

Alfred Health is establishing a Cancer Services Advisory Group (CSAG) and seeking applications from health care consumers to join

Why is this role important?

The role supports Alfred Health in the continuous development and improvement of Alfred Health’s Cancer services through the provision of consumer/patient expertise, feedback on current services and input into ongoing service development and design.

Who can apply?

Applications are sought from people living with cancer and carers/family members of people living with cancer who use Alfred Health’s Cancer services. People from diverse backgrounds who live in Melbourne or regional Victoria are encouraged to apply.

What will I be doing?

The Advisory Group will initially meet monthly during establishment phase (first 12 months) and then  4-6 times per year via video conference. The membership is made up from community and consumer representatives and Alfred Health staff. There is a requirement to attend 75% of meetings and the term of office is 2 years.

Will I be given some training?

You will be formally orientated as a Consumer Advisor to Alfred Health (if new to Alfred Health as a consumer advisor). As this is a new Advisory group being established all members will be orientated to the group and have input into role statements and terms of reference. You will be given a key contact on the committee who will provide ongoing support. Regular training opportunities are provided for Consumer Advisors.

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Services Advisory Group

What is this role? 

Alfred Health is seeking applications from health care consumers and members of the community to join the Alfred Health Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Services Advisory Committee.

Why is this role important?

The role supports Alfred Health in the continuous development and improvement of Alfred Health’s ABI and ABI related services through the provision of consumer/patient expertise, feedback on current services and input into ongoing service development and design.

What will I be doing?

The committee meetings are held every two months. The membership of the group is made up of community and consumer representatives and Alfred Health staff. There is a requirement to attend a minimum of 75 per cent of meetings held and the term of office is 2 years.

Will I be given some training?

You will be formally orientated as a Consumer Advisor to Alfred Health and the committee. This will include a role statement and introduction to other members. You will be given a key contact on the committee who will provide ongoing support. Regular training opportunities are provided for Consumer Advisors.

Consumer Advisors on Committees

What is this role? 

Alfred Health has a number of positions available for Consumer Advisors on committees throughout the health service. 

In this role, you will ensure the patient, carer and family perspective is considered at all times. This will support safe quality care and help achieve the best possible patient experience. 

Why is this role important?

There is a growing body of international evidence that consumer participation in healthcare planning and improvements can lead to increased efficiencies, improved health outcomes and experience and reduced costs to the system. As a Consumer Advisor on a committee you will bring your lived experience and represent the broader needs of Alfred Health patients and families.

What will I be doing?

As a member of a committee, you will attend regular meetings and participate in discussions with key staff and other consumers. 

Will I be given some training?

You will be formally orientated as a Consumer Advisor to Alfred Health and the relevant committee. This will include a role statement and introduction to other members. You will be given a key contact on the committee who will provide ongoing support. Regular training opportunities are provided for Consumer Advisors.
