Careers & education

The Department of Cardiology has a strong, longstanding commitment to provide training and research opportunities to highly motivated candidates. 

Many of our alumni have continued on to senior clinical and academic positions.

Opportunities include accredited training positions for advanced cardiology (FRACP) trainees, PhD studentships (for both clinical and non-clinical candidates), supervision for BMedSci candidates.

We also provide training opportunities for technical and nursing staff in areas including echocardiography and in the cardiac catheterisation laboratories.

Clinical, research and administrative positions

BMedSci and PhD Students

The Department of Cardiology has a very active research program across a broad range of themes.  Many of the clinician-researchers hold higher degrees and have adjunct appointments at Monash University.

Cardiac Technicians

Cardiac Technologist duties include working in the Cardiology department performing ECGs, analysing Holter monitors, performing exercise tests, pacemaker and ICD interrogations, monitoring and scouting in a range of cardiac catheter laboratory procedures, assisting in electrophysiology studies and performing transthoracic and stress echocardiograms.

Baseline qualifications should include an Applied Science Degree or equivalent, with Mayfield certificate or equivalent and experience in the relevant specialty (ie pacing or electrophysiology studies).  Post Graduate Diploma is required for positions in echocardiography.

Administrative staff

The department employs a number of administrative staff in a wide range of positions.  Duties range from reception work, switchboard operation, general secretarial/billings, personal assistant and Business Administrator.
