The Alfred Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials Unit is among the largest clinical trial site of its kind in Australia.
We need clinical trials to prove that a new medication, device or treatment is safe and effective for people.
Without clinical trials, new treatments and medicines cannot be approved for use in Australia.
The Alfred Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials Unit coordinates multi-centre international clinical trials and participates in several other major research studies including clinical trials, audits and surveys.
Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine has 29 full-time anaesthetists and over 65 visiting specialist anaesthetists, as well as 40 registrars in training.
We conduct clinical trials which relate to the perioperative period. We aim to identify and refine the most appropriate treatments to improve patient-centred outcomes after surgery.
The Alfred Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials team are leaders in their fields, with decades of Australian and international experience.
